I have loved The Merry Misfits of Bath series by Callie Hutton thus far but book three, Lady Pamela and the Gambler is the best of the best! All of the ladies of this group are strong and independent enough to reject society's norms and forge a life for themselves in Bath. Yet, Lady Pamela has the most visible handicap to deal with, her stuttering. Her stuttering worsens in public situations and increases with anxiety making most encounters outside of her small group of friends unbearable. And still she continues to stand up to those who would take advantage of vulnerable women and children. It is hard not to love her and as you Read cheer her on in her fight for justice.Lady Pamela and the Gambler also has more mystery and suspense woven into the romance than the first two novels. In standing up to bullies her own safety is threatened. Turning to Nick ,the Gambler, is also a risk to her heart, her reputation as well as her life. Thus Callie Hutton has you on the edge of your seat from the first page to the last.Callie Hutton's talent as a storyteller and master at word craft shows in every line of this book. Her words captured my imagination and like magic transported me to another time and place. I didn't just read this novel, I experienced it, I lived It! It was magnificent. The romance was sweet and savory, with just enough spice to make you tingle at every encounter of Nick and Pamela. How Callie weaves the intense love and devotion Nick has for Pamela in and around the action of rescuing an innocent woman from human traffickers, was amazing. You could feel the emotions, the tensions between Pamela and Nick building. And you know the moment Pamela decides to trust that Nick's feelings are true, because you experience the same giddy butterfly wings as Pamela does. Again you are more than a reader, you are a participant in this story. It is a very heady feeling.Once again, it took me a moment to come down from the high I experienced as I read the happily ever after ending. Lady Pamela and the Gambler is a wonderful way to take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Just grab this book a cup of tea and sink into your favorite comfy chair and escape to historical Bath. You may never want to return.
