Usually my hens freely roam the yard during the day but we were seeding a large portion so they were confined to a smaller (but reasonably sized) area for two weeks. The only thing wrong with the smaller yard area was the lack of a dust bath bathing station for them. I combined these ingredients in a large cat litter tray to make the ultimate dust bath: dried herbs (lavender and rosemary), cinnamon, soil from their favorite existing dust bath spot in my garden, sand and food grade diatomaceous earth.
